A quiet Japanese garden reflected on the water

A journey inward.

Through the lens of wellness tourism and retreats, NAIKAN designs journeys and stays that invite you to encounter Japan’s stillness, nature, culture, craftsmanship, and ways of life rooted in place—while making time to reconnect with yourself.

Behind NAIKAN is thirty years of experience in Japan’s travel and hospitality industries, supporting guests from Japan and abroad as they journey through regions across the country.

Japan is more than cities such as Tokyo and Kyoto. It is also quiet temples, mountain villages, coastlines and islands, workshops carrying traditions forward, and a culture of restorative hot-spring stays. Drawing on our experience, we introduce places and encounters that cannot be found by rushing from one landmark to the next. We listen to each person’s purpose and pace, then consider together how their time in Japan can feel truly their own.

The name NAIKAN carries the meaning ‘to look within.’ It is a practice of quietly reflecting on our relationships and past experiences—what we have received, what we have given in return, and how our actions have affected those around us.

Time in Japan, beyond sightseeing. Experiences that remain quietly with you long after the journey—with NAIKAN.

Our Service / サービス

NAIKAN Journey Design

A green wetland surrounded by mountains

A journey through Japan, made for you.

NAIKAN Journey Design is a planning service that works with you to shape a journey through Japan around your individual hopes and needs.

We listen to the places and experiences that interest you, the length of your stay, your budget, and the pace at which you want to travel. From there, we thoughtfully bring together options suited to your purpose—not only familiar destinations, but also nature, hot springs, food, craft, cultural experiences, and stays in quieter regions.

  • ‘I know what I want to experience, but not where to go.’
  • ‘I want a comfortable itinerary within the time I have.’
  • ‘I want my time in Japan to feel personal to me.’

Starting with those thoughts, we consider the balance of travel and rest and shape the journey as a whole together.

Our aim is for your time in Japan to become more than a schedule to complete: a rich experience that feels right for you. NAIKAN helps you take the first step.

Personal Support / パーソナルサポート

NAIKAN Bridge

Connecting people and culture, naturally.

NAIKAN Bridge is a personal support service designed to help you experience your time in Japan with greater ease and depth.

From reservations and itinerary adjustments to accompanying you for selected experiences when needed, we help reduce uncertainty caused by differences in language and custom—even in regions and facilities where English support is limited—so you can connect naturally with local people and culture.

Our role extends beyond translating words. Whether you are staying at a traditional inn, visiting a regional workshop, joining a cultural experience, or traveling somewhere still little known, we share the context and etiquette of each setting and stay close enough for you to experience it with confidence.

Travel more smoothly with NAIKAN Bridge, and experience the distinctive time and character of each place more fully.

Our Standard / 選定基準

Four perspectives that guide NAIKAN

[ 03 ]

  1. Time to turn attention inward

The experience creates space to quietly notice one’s breath, bodily sensations, emotions, or the movement of one’s hands.

  2. Tangible participation through the senses and body

Rather than observation alone, the guest takes part through practices such as zazen, yoga, food, hot springs, handwork, or walking in nature.

  3. An environment apart from the pace of daily life

Stillness, nature, temples, hot-spring towns, or workshops allow the guest to experience a different rhythm of time.

  4. A meaningful connection to Japanese place and culture

The experience has an essential relationship with its setting and with traditions such as Zen, tea, food, craft, nature, satoyama, or the skills of artisans.
